Resolved Question: What is the best way to set up a structured settlement/trust fund for a 4 year old girl?
|
We have just settled a burn case for our daughter and are waiting for the financial people to contact us. Our financial advisors (Edward Jones) said there is a way to open a higher interest bearing trust account rather than take the usual structured settlement options. Has anyone had experience with this? What are the things to look for?

Resolved Question: How tax cuts work. Can you do the math?
|
I know this is a long one, but please read the whole thing.
With the election next week, you have probably heard a lot of political squabbling about tax reform and our need for an “equitable” tax system. This issue has been seriously mis-represented and the majority of people have relied on the mainstream media and come to believe certain things about the burden of taxes in this country that has little to do with reality.
I have heard this story below a number of times on the radio, broadcast email, forwards, etc. It is a story about 10 men who had dinner together every week and settled the bill according to the structure of the “tax system” in this country.
This story of the dinner is obviously fictitious, but the analogy is accurate. Some have attributed the unconfirmed authorship to Don Dodson of Ft. Worth TX in a letter to the editor of the Chicago Tribune in March of 2001 but the earliest distribution that I have been able to find is by T. Davies, Professor of Accounting at the University of South Dakota School of Business who has personally disclaimed authorship but acknowledges distributing it to his graduate students to stimulate discussion. You may have heard this before but it is still both good and timely.
It seemed that 10 men decided to have a business lunch once a week. They always met in the same restaurant and the bill was always, $100.00, for all 10 men. If each man was responsible for his share of the bill that would be, $10.00, each. The men decided to divide the bill based upon their ability to pay (using the progressive structure of the tax code). Using this formula the following payment arrangement was worked out based upon income.
Men 1-4 who made the least amount of money paid nothing.
Man 5 paid $ 1.00
Man 6 paid $ 3.00
Man 7 paid $ 7.00
Man 8 paid $12.00
Man 9 paid $18.00
Man 10 paid $59.00
After several weeks the owner of the restaurant told the men that because they were such good customers he was reducing the bill by $20.00. Their dilemma was how to divide up the, $20.00. If each person got the same amount then the first 4 men would be getting money back but they never paid anything for the dinners. After much discussion and no resolve the owner offered the following suggestion which they all agreed to.
Original Payment-New Payment-$ Amount Saved-% Saved
Men 1-4 paid $ 0.00 $ 0.00 $0.00 0%
Man 5 paid $ 1.00 $ 0.00 $1.00 100%
Man 6 paid $ 3.00 $ 2.00 $1.00 33%
Man 7 paid $ 7.00 $ 5.00 $2.00 28%
Man 8 paid $12.00 $ 9.00 $3.00 25%
Man 9 paid $18.00 $14.00 $4.00 22%
Man 10 paid $59.00 $50.00 $9.00 15%
Once outside the men began to argue about the settlement. Man 5 said he only got, $1.00, while Man 10 received, $9.00. Men 1-4 were upset because the received nothing. They said that the cut only benefited the rich and the poor got nothing. They were upset so they beat up Man 10 and left him. The next week they met for lunch as usual except man 10 did not show up. When the new bill arrived the men discovered that between them they did not have enough money to pay even half of the bill.
In this story we see a simplified version of the Federal Income Tax. According to an article in the “New York Times” 80% of the taxes are paid by 20% of the people highest income people. Any time you have a tax cut the people who are carrying the tax burden are going to get the money. The next time you hear of a tax cut and the media tells you that the wealthy are getting all the money, remember they are the ones paying the taxes.

Resolved Question: Teen Daughters Rights?
|
My daughter was in a bad car accident 6 years ago and her case just settled and I am not sure that I am trusting my attorney. He is saying that her money has to go into a probate account until she is 18 years of age, yet we haven't seen any of her money or singed anything since we came to a settlement over a month ago. His firm is still trying to negotiate her total medical records and once that is known, then I have to decide if if I want to put her money in a Probate account or a structured settlement. My attorney is pushing for a structured settlement, however I am not sure that is safe, seeing how they are not FDIC insured and with the way the economy is today, this is frightning. I am not a bad parent, I work 50 hours a week and own my own home and do not have a need for her money. However the attorney is saying that the courts will not trust me with my childs money because most parents will spend their childs money on swimming pools and such. My fear is once my child turns 18, it is possible that she will cash in her settlement, if the company has not gone under and lose a great deal of money for cashing in on it and then run away with a crazy boyfriend and who knows what will happen then. Though my daughter is pretty level headed and a senior in high school, I fear that she has told many friends of her settlement and they may wish to take advantage of this. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I am not saying that I want her money!
I am saying that I am paying for her to go to school and I want her to be able to have her money when she is 30 or 40 years old and needs the money for her family. I am just wondering if the Probate deal is correct information that I am receiving from my attorney. And a Structured Settlement, if I choose that route, which is my decission to make because she is not 18 year of age, is NOT FDIC Insured. - sorry if I was not more clear in my original question.

At work we are currently working on a 3 storey block of apartments. We have been informed that due to the building settlement (on the top floor, this will be approximately 35mm. It is out intention to install boilers with flues terminating horizontaly through the wall.
However, as the timber frame is fixed to the foundattion that can settle but the brickwork cant, we will experience a problem that when the frame settle the flue will drop, thus meaning that the holes formed for the flue will now open up.
Can anyone recommend a suitable material for sealing the hole that will allow for movement with opening the hole up and how to apply it??
Sorry for the long essay and thanks in advance

Voting Question: What do These Points mean? (from woodrow wilson) *even if you only know one, please answer!?
|
I have tried going to several different sites that supposedly translate them, but it is very difficulat to comprehend. All I need is to make like 3 bullets on what they mean/summary of quote.
“A free, open-minded, and absolutely impartial adjustment of all colonial claims, based upon a strict observance of the principle that in determining all such questions of sovereignty the interests of the populations concerned must have equal weight with the equitable claims of the government whose title is to be determined.”
“The evacuation of all Russian territory and such a settlement of all questions affecting Russia as will secure the best and freest cooperation of the other nations of the world in obtaining for her an unhampered and unembarrassed opportunity for the independent determination of her own political development and national policy and assure her of a sincere welcome into the society of free nations under institutions of her own choosing; and, more than a welcome, assistance also of every kind that she may need and may herself desire. The treatment accorded Russia by her sister nations in the months to come will be the acid test of their good will, of their comprehension of her needs as distinguished from their own interests, and of their intelligent and unselfish sympathy.”
“Belgium, the whole world will agree, must be evacuated and restored, without any attempt to limit the sovereignty which she enjoys in common with all other free nations. No other single act will serve as this will serve to restore confidence among the nations in the laws which they have themselves set and determined for the government of their relations with one another. Without this healing act the whole structure and validity of international law is forever impaired.”
“All French territory should be freed and the invaded portions restored, and the wrong done to France by Prussia in 1871 in the matter of Alsace-Lorraine, which has unsettled the peace of the world for nearly fifty years, should be righted, in order that peace may once more be made secure in the interest of all.”
“ A readjustment of the frontiers of Italy should be effected along clearly recognizable lines of nationality.”
“The peoples of Austria-Hungary, whose place among the nations we wish to see safeguarded and assured, should be accorded the freest opportunity to autonomous development.”
“Rumania, Serbia, and Montenegro should be evacuated; occupied territories restored; Serbia accorded free and secure access to the sea; and the relations of the several Balkan states to one another determined by friendly counsel along historically established lines of allegiance and nationality; and international guarantees of the political and economic independence and territorial integrity of the several Balkan states should be entered into.”
“The Turkish portion of the present Ottoman Empire should be assured a secure sovereignty, but the other nationalities which are now under Turkish rule should be assured an undoubted security of life and an absolutely unmolested opportunity of autonomous development, and the Dardanelles should be permanently opened as a free passage to the ships and commerce of all nations under international guarantees.”
“An independent Polish state should be erected which should include the territories inhabited by indisputably Polish populations, which should be assured a free and secure access to the sea, and whose political and economic independence and territorial integrity should be guaranteed by international covenant.”
even if you know just ONE please please please help me!!! Thankyou!!

Resolved Question: Why are Obama's lies about McCain taken as cannon, when the truth is in writing? Below is a few examples...?
|
Statement by Senator John McCain, May 25, 2006:
Mr. President, this week Fannie Mae's regulator reported that the company's quarterly reports of profit growth over the past few years were "illusions deliberately and systematically created" by the company's senior management, which resulted in a $10.6 billion accounting scandal.
The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight's report goes on to say that Fannie Mae employees deliberately and intentionally manipulated financial reports to hit earnings targets in order to trigger bonuses for senior executives. In the case of Franklin Raines, Fannie Mae's former chief executive officer, OFHEO's report shows that over half of Mr. Raines' compensation for the 6 years through 2003 was directly tied to meeting earnings targets. The report of financial misconduct at Fannie Mae echoes the deeply troubling $5 billion profit restatement at Freddie Mac.
The OFHEO report also states that Fannie Mae used its political power to lobby Congress in an effort to interfere with the regulator's examination of the company's accounting problems. This report comes some weeks after Freddie Mac paid a record $3.8 million fine in a settlement with the Federal Election Commission and restated lobbying disclosure reports from 2004 to 2005. These are entities that have demonstrated over and over again that they are deeply in need of reform.
For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac--known as Government-sponsored entities or GSEs--and the sheer magnitude of these companies and the role they play in the housing market. OFHEO's report this week does nothing to ease these concerns. In fact, the report does quite the contrary. OFHEO's report solidifies my view that the GSEs need to be reformed without delay.
I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.
I urge my colleagues to support swift action on this GSE reform legislation.
------ The above is fact - McCain was on this case well before Obama.
The New York Times has charged that McCain-Palin campaign manager Rick Davis was paid by Freddie Mac until last month. Fact is Mr. Davis quit from his consulting firm in 2006. Mr. Davis has seen no income from Davis Manafort since 2006. Davis was not a registered lobbyist since 2005. This is just a lie.
People, get away from the media, and read!!!
Thanks Mavericky Maverickness, your absolutely right about the Canon and Cannon. I'll be sure to watch my speling...
As for the above joke, (on canon and cannon and speling...) if your entire opinion is based on my misspelling of a word, why are you here? Someone even used a colorful metaphor to describe me based on this. One correction is appreciated, and honestly thanked for pointing out my error. All following are lemmings. This all detracts from the original point, which is what the democrats seem to be good at.

Open Question: Can anybody help me with this data structure problem?

The Resort Real Estate Company (RREC) specializes in the rental, sale, and most importantly the maintenance of exotic time share properties. This means that there are multiple owners (or repeating groups) for the same property. A recent law suit was filed against RREC because properties were being poorly maintained. As a result, RREC developed various maintenance fee charges for each type of property. The legal settlement requires RREC to keep track of the maintenance fees and maintenance fee payments made by owners for each property.
You are given the following data structure and are required to normalize this into third-normal-form. (You are required to explain each step in transforming this data structure).
RREC(Property_ID, Property_name, Address, City, State, Unit_no (Owner_name, Owner_phone (Property_type, Property_features (Maintenance_fee_charged (Maintenance_fee_paid, Paid_amount, Paid_Date, Check_no)))))

Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005
September 17th, 2008
I suggest everyone go to govtrack.us and look at John McCain’s record on attempting to reform the regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac. On May 25, 2006, John McCain urges:
…Fannie Mae used its political power to lobby Congress in an effort to interfere with the regulator’s examination of the company’s accounting problems. This report comes some weeks after Freddie Mac paid a record $3.8 million fine in a settlement with the Federal Election Commission and restated lobbying disclosure reports from 2004 to 2005. These are entities that have demonstrated over and over again that they are deeply in need of reform.
For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac–known as Government-sponsored entities or GSEs–and the sheer magnitude of these companies and the role they play in the housing market. OFHEO’s report this week does nothing to ease these concerns. In fact, the report does quite the contrary. OFHEO’s report solidifies my view that the GSEs need to be reformed without delay.
John McCain co-sponsored S. 190 [109th]: Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005. Unfortunately, it DID NOT make it out of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs committee chaired by Christopher Dodd [D, CT].
No wonder Obama is clueless, Dodd BLOCKED any attempts in 2005 to reform the problems we have today, and Dodd ran for President, the dimwit Democrats are really CLUELESS, add this to Barney Frank who is the Chair of the House Financial Services Committee
"These two entities, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, are not facing any kind of financial crisis," Frank said. He added, "The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.

Voting Question: A question about this creation junk.....?
|
"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neolithic"
I quote from that link:
"Neolithic 2 — Pre-Pottery Neolithic B (PPNB)
The Neolithic 2 (PPNB) began around 7500 to 7000 BC in the Levant (Jericho, Palestine). Like the PPNA dates there are two versions from the same laboratories noted above. But this terminological structure is not agreeable for SouthEast Anatolia and Middle Anatolia Basin settlements.
Settlements have rectangular mudbrick houses where the family lived together in single or multiple rooms. Burial findings suggest an ancestor cult where people preserved skulls from the dead, which were plastered with mud to make facial features. The rest of the corpse may have been left outside the settlement to decay until only the bones were left, then the bones were buried inside the settlement underneath the floor or between houses.
[edit]Neolithic 3 — Pottery Neolithic (PN)
Excavated dwellings at Skara Brae Scotland, Europe's most complete Neolithic village."
The Neolithic 3 (PN) began around 6000 to 5500 BC in the Fertile Crescent. By then distinctive cultures emerged, with pottery like the Halafian (Turkey, Syria, Northern Mesopotamia) and Ubaid (Southern Mesopotamia).
The Chalcolithic period began about 4500 BC, then the Bronze Age began about 3500 BC, replacing the Neolithic cultures."
=================
So, correct me if i'm wrong, but do creationists believe in only the archeological evidence for the "Neolithic 3" and not the 2? Seeing as one is about 7000 years old and the other a little less than 6000?
I am, and I think it's bs, now...about my question.

MCCAIN STATEMENT ON CO-SPONSORSHIP OF THE FEDERAL HOUSING ENTERPRISE REGULATORY REFORM ACT OF 2005
May 26, 2006
Washington D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) submitted for the record the following statement regarding his co-sponsorship of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Act of 2005:

|
Apparently I forgot my Amer. history textbook. >_< Please tell me if I got these right~ Any help at all or links that will help will be appreciated.
What were the causes of Native American and English conflict?
The Native Americans were allies with the French and the French fought the English because of control of the Ohio River Valley. The English weren't very friendly with the N.A but the French were; they traded for the N.A.'s fur because fur was rare in France back then.
Why was King Phillip's war important?
Because it is one of the most recognized wars..? It was one of the bloodiest wars.
What were the reasons for exploration?
Trade, food, learning about different cultures, land, freedom
What events in Europe encouraged exploration?
Renaissance. That one is right I know for sure.
Who were the first to explore the New World?
Ack. >_< It's either the Vikings or Chris. Colombus...
What did Ponce de Leon, Hernando Soto, and Cortez explore?
Land, I think?
Why were Columbuss voyages significant?
Because his sailing westward proved that you could find China and the riches of the Orient. My history teacher said something like, even though the Vikings went to America first, Chris. Columbus actually recorded it on map.
What was important about the exchange of corn, potato, sugar, and the horse?
??? Some countries didn't have those things, so by trading, it expanded their supply of food.

Resolved Question: can i get a loan from a bank with structured settlement?
|
i'm going to be 18 in a few days and i have a structured settlement that i'm not supposed to be getting until august of 2009. problem is, my father is unemployed and i have a car that is barely running. i live pretty far out in the country and there's no public transit, so there's really no way of getting to and from a job without a reliable vehicle. if i go to a bank and offer the paperwork on my structured settlement as collateral or something, what are my chances of getting a loan even though i'm unemployed or can i even get one at all?

Resolved Question: Social Security Benefits and Structured Settlement Payments?
|
My sister is disabled and receives a social security benefit (SSDI) check each month. She also receives a check monthly from an insurance company due to a car accident she was in a few years back. That is her only income. She qualifies for and uses Medicare.
She wants to get a lump sum payment from her structured settlement payments and use that to pay off bills etc.
Will getting all that extra money automatically disqualify her from getting Medicare and SSDI?

OR, the first sentence is wrong with the using of "of"?

Resolved Question: How much does it cost to take money out of a structured settlement?
|
Let's say for example I have $140,000 in the bank that will be payed to me over the next 20 years, with a payment every 4 years. How much would it cost if I wanted to take out $40,000 out of my structured settlement? I'm just looking for rough numbers of what companies charge for taking money out in advance of a structured settlement (not a lump sum because I want only 40k)?

Resolved Question: Since Israel continues to expand settlements on the West Bank based on their Holy Scripture, does anyone in...
|
YA land want to help me with a religious/political project? God came to me in a vision last night and told me that the land on which the White House currently sits is rightfully mine and if I can gather unto me 1,000 righteous warriors to take the land as our own, banish or kill all who live and work there, destroy all existing structures and build our own in His name, He will grant us all a glorious success. So, who's with me? If you think this is a religious question not a political one, ask yourself how the encrochment of Israel on Palestinian lands could do anything but destroy any hope for a political peace process between them.

Resolved Question: I'm trying to buy a home, can someone help me?
|
I would like to buy a home nothing spectacular, just for me and a 3 yr old boy. The problem is I'am currently unemployed, because I'm going to school. I have a check that comes every month from a structured settlement and child support as well! I have enough saved for a down payment and am ready to buy. Is there anyway I could buy a home without being employed. I still have an income of about $1600 per month.

Resolved Question: What is the oldest structure in the United States of America?
|
Just a general ponder - the oldest we have in the UK are either those in the Shetland Isles which are between 3 and 6 thousand years old and Stonhenge which is around 2 - 3 thousand years old.
I know that the states is a fairly modern country but surely there must be some ancient settlements from before the Europeans colonized it...

in 2003, my daughter had a case settled for malpractice. i recieved documents shortly after about her structured settlement acct. since then i had a fire as a result i no longer have those documents.I just recently i recieved notice from the structured settlement specialist requesting my daughters social security number and he also indicated to me that my daughters acct has not been fully set up due to a lack of info that her attorney failed to provide. i tried to reach the attorney but was told that his liscence has been suspended during 2003. my daughter is approaching the age to recieve her money, my question is what do i have to do for her to recieve it. who should i contact since the attorney who handled the case is not reachable, and the settlement specialist is not much assistance either????--- please help

Voting Question: Lump sum settlements and child support?
|
I've seen those ads on tv about selling your structure settlements for a lump sum - I'm wondering if there is anything similar for child support arrears.
My ex owes 11K in arrears (the non public assistance kind). He doesn't have any new child support obligation because he signed his rights away a year ago. He pretty much never made a payment and then went to prison on drug charges. Since he was released from prison I have received about $80 a month from his paycheck. I'm sure he is only keeping his job and making payments because he is on parole. The state has never been great about enforcing the child support.
I'd love to just settle for even a chunk of the money at once. I have a lot of old debt I accrued taking care of my son with out any financial support that I'd love to pay off.
Do any companies buy child support arrears like they do settlements? or anything like that?
Thank You
